We have decided to do a few different things this year on the equipment front. While building the building has been our primary focus, updating equipment always remains a primary focus.
We had to organize the equipment. While I have heard from parents coming in from other leagues and also talking with people from other Pop Warner associations, the Bulldogs have always been on the more organized list. However, I had the unfortunate please of being the equipment manager this year. For those that have been through the pad handouts already, it has gone much faster and been better organized than past years. We made the investment into containers to section out sizes of equipment and uniforms. My belief is that this will keep this part of the process in order and more efficient for years to come.
We have started into an arrangment with Xenith helmets. In the first year of offering, we will have over 50 players wearing the new helmet. Once you have this helmet, it will be your son’s helmet for as long as he is with the Bulldogs. Each year, he will get the same helmet back to use, as identified by the serial number. We chose this helmet not only for it’s advancements in concussion protection, but also for its breathability. The helmet alone will keep palyers cooler during practice and games.
I have started the cleat recycling program this year. Having 5-6 pairs around the house that my boys were grown out of, but were still in good shape, I brought them to the trailer where people in need can use as needed. At this age range, the boys grow out of the cleats faster than they wear them out. If you have any laying around, bring them out and we will put them into the program.
Next year, we will concentrate on the equipment such as updating the blocking sleds and other larger items which carry a heavier price to repair and or replace.
Equipment is also not just for player and cheerleader usage. You will see many changes with the new building as far as the Bone Gear shop and especially the concession stand are concerned.
